Talkeetna then back to Anchorage

We decided that we should check out Talkeetna's downtown district during the day time hours. Main Street is loaded with art galleries, restaurants, gift shops and other tourist traps. We set out in the RV and found some public parking, then headed off on foot. After window shopping and going into a couple galleries for an hour or so, we stopped at an outdoor stand serving barbeque. We split a BBQ sandwich, which was surprisingly good for being so far north, and then continued on our way.

There are a couple small museums in Talkeetna and we stopped at one of them. The Historical Society Museum consists of 4 historic buildings - a school house, a couple of railroad buildings and an old cabin. It cost $3 per person to tour the museum and though it was small, it was worth the price.

We had about a 2 hour drive to Anchorage and a load of laundry to do, so we decided we'd seen all there is to see in Talkeetna and hit the road. Along the way to Anchorage, we saw what appeared to be a black bear crossing the road two cars in front of us. The line of cars slowed down, but it scurried off into the woods before we could get a good look at it.

Courtney found a great RV park on the north side of town for us to stay at and we arrived at about 6:30. Anchorage RV Park is not your normal parking lot with hook-ups, it's a wooded "neighborhood" and we were assigned a great spot backing up to the forest.

After we arrived, I headed over to the community pavilion to grill some chicken breast that we'd been marinating all day. We ate that with black beans and corn — it was our last real meal in the RV as we were set to drop off our motor home tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
