Road Trippin'

Posted by Nick on 12/23/07 at 1:41 PM

We rented a min-van to complete the road trip in, but Enterprise didn't have it ready until about 10 am. When we finally got loaded up, it was about 11:00. We drove for a couple hours to Brady, Texas, where we stopped at the local Dairy Queen. You can always count on one of those when you're hungry. My dad refers to them as "Dairy Creams."

From Brady we headed toward Lubbock, where we stopped at an Academy. I needed to get gloves, ski pants and some ski goggles for our trip. From Lubbock, we drove to Clovis, New Mexico where we stopped at a local mexican food restaurant to eat dinner. My dad and I had pork stew and Eric and Courtney shared a taco salad. It was early, about 8:00, so we decided to go ahead and drive to Santa Rosa, about an hour and a half away.

When we got to Santa Rosa, things didn't quite seem right. We drove past building after building before realizing that there must be some kind of power outage. We pulled into a very dark Super 8 Motel parking lot, and Eric went inside to speak with the clerk. When he came back out he informed us that power was out from here to Clovis, and we couldn't get a room because they needed electricity to make the keys. We had about 1/8 of a tank of gas and decide to start driving toward Las Vegas, New Mexico, about 66 miles away. About 20 miles in without a gas station in sight, we decided to turn around and head back to Santa Rosa and wait for the power to come back on. Luckily it had come back on by the time we got back. We were able to fill up on gas and check into the Super 8 for the night.
