Red River

Since the skiing at Angel Fire was below par, we decided to head 30 miles north to Red River. This town has some special meaning to me — I went there with Eric on a ski trip about 7 years ago, and it's the place that Courtney and I got engaged about 6 years ago. The ski area sits in the middle of the Carson National Forest. It's small and the lifts need to be updated, but it has it's own kind of charm. We arrived at 12:30 pm, so we purchased ½ day passes and skied until 4:00.

The skiing wasn't perfect, but it was better than Angel Fire. On our last run the temperature dropped dramatically and snow started coming down hard. Eric drove back to Angel Fire in the mini-van through some tough road conditions and very limited visibility. We made it all the way, no problem, until we were about 20 yards from our condo. We had to traverse a hill to get to the garage and the van didn't make it. The road was too slippery and the tires just couldn't get a grip. We tried pushing the van from the back, but to no avail. Luckily my mom's truck has 4-wheel drive. We went and got the truck, strapped it to the van, and pulled it up the hill. My family still has teamwork.

Taco soup was waiting for us when we got back inside. It was delicious. After dinner we played Rook until about 12:30 am, when we called it a night.
