Vernazza
We said goodbye to Florence at about 10:00 in the morning. We arrived in Vernazza, a little town on the western Italian coast, at about 14:30. Vernazza is a part of Cinque Terre ("5 Lands") which is a grouping of 5 little towns along the Italian Riviera. Vernazza is a very charming town cut into the hillside with narrow streets between multi-colored buildings.
It was in Vernazza that we met up with Eric again. After checking into our hotel we walked down to the beach. This is the part of the trip where we truly felt like we were on vacation. We hung out on the town's small beach for a bit then chose a place to eat dinner. Since Vernazza is on the coast, it's known for it's seafood. We feasted on mussels, anchovies and octopus among other things.
After dinner we bought a few bottles of wine and went to hang out on a terrace near Vernazza's castle. We had deep conversations about the EU and gypsies until about 2:00 in the morning.
