The Trail
Until just recently the only way to get between the five towns of Cinque Terre was by foot along one of many trails cut into the hillsides. The trails are still a popular way to get around. We slept in a bit and got going at about noon. Our plan was to take one of the trails from Vernazza to the town of Monterosso. The hike took about 2 hours as it went up and down the coast line. We were treated with incredible views of the Mediterranean every step of the way.
We arrived in Monterosso and loaded up on sandwiches for lunch. Monterosso has the largest beach area of the five towns and we hung out there for a few hours. The water of the Mediterranean was incredibly cold, but we all braved it for at least a few minutes. After tiring of the beach we strolled around Monterosso for a bit and then caught a train back to Vernazza.
Since we opted for an expensive dinner the night before, tonight we ate pizza which didn't turn out to be very good. It got us full though. After dinner we made our way to the Blue Marlin, a bar on the main strip. We closed down the place at midnight then headed to the terrace attached to Nick and Courtney's room to enjoy the rest of the evening. Bedtime was around 1:00.
